State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain today (16 July) called for ensuring the trial of all those allegedly involved in killings during the July Uprising, as well as enforced disappearances, murders and other killings that took place during anti-government movements over the past 17 years.
“It is not enough merely to complete the trials; the judgments must also be enforced,” he told journalists after visiting the grave of July martyr Wasim Akram in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The state minister said he was speaking both as a political activist who supported the July uprising and as a participant in the anti-government movement.
Earlier, Ishraque paid tribute to Wasim by laying a wreath at Wasim Akram’s grave and offered special prayers.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the Pekua upazila nirbahi officer, Wasim’s father and other government officials were present.
Wasim Akram was one of the prominent martyrs of the July uprising. He was shot dead by police during the quota reform protests in Chattogram’s Muradpur area on 16 July 2024.
At the time of his death, he was a fourth-year sociology student at Chattogram College.
