Benny Blanco has finally revealed why he kept his relationship with Selena Gomez private for a long time.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper El País, the 38-year-old music producer shared that he and the Calm Down singer had some serious conversations before they went public as a couple.
“We kept our relationship private for a long time, about eight or nine months,” Benny said.
He then revealed the important question that Selena had asked him before they made their relationship public.
“And she asked me, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends,’” Benny recalled.
“And then I said, ‘You know what? Screw it.’ We’re lucky because we both have friends and family we’ve known since before all this, and we’re surrounded by a good group of people we love,” he added.
Despite being married to one of the world’s most popular singers, Benny said he’s still learning the ropes of social media culture.
“I don’t like to expose my life,” he told the outlet. “Famous people are under constant scrutiny: if you say one thing, it’s wrong, and if you say another, it’s also wrong.”
“Maybe I’ll occasionally post a picture of my wife or some delicious dish I’ve tried, but I hardly ever post anything on my Instagram that isn’t work-related,” he added.
For those unversed, Benny and Selena exchanged vows on September 27, 2025, after nearly two years of dating.
