The Jamaat-e-Islami has relieved its Kushtia district secretary of his organisational duties following a central party decision barring men employed at women’s educational institutions from serving as party members (Rukn) with organisational responsibilities.
Md Sujauddin Joardar, who teaches at Dr Md Fazlul Haque Girls’ Degree College in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia, has been replaced as secretary by Enamul Haque, confirmed AKM Ali Mohsin, ameer of Kushtia district Jamaat.
Enamul previously served as ameer of the Kushtia city unit, said a statement issued last night (13 July) on the Facebook page of the Kushtia district Jamaat.
According to the statement, under the central organisation’s decision, no man employed at a women’s educational institution may carry out organisational responsibilities as a member of Jamaat.
In line with this decision, Md Enamul Haque has been appointed secretary of the Kushtia district unit, read the statement.
It also said the decision was unanimously approved at a meeting of the district executive council held yesterday.
Speaking on the development, Sujauddin said he joined the college as a teacher before becoming the district Jamaat secretary.
The party’s constitution at the time allowed him to hold both positions, he added.
He added that if he leaves his teaching position in the future, he may be eligible for reinstatement to a party post.
Sujauddin said, “This is a decision of the central committee. The same policy is being applied to all Rukn members across the country. I have no resentment or disappointment over the decision. I respect the party’s decision.”
