The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) early today (9 July) blocked an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push seven people, including men and women, into Bangladesh through the Kalairag border in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet.
According to BGB, the incident occurred around 4am today when BSF personnel tried to push the seven individuals across the border.
BGB members immediately intervened and prevented the attempt.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Haque, commanding officer of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), said the BSF attempted to push the group into Bangladesh through the border adjacent to the Kalairag Border Outpost (BOP).
He said, “BGB personnel promptly obstructed the move, forcing BSF members to retreat and take the individuals back into Indian territory.”
Nazmul Haque further said, “BGB has called for a flag meeting with the BSF over the incident.”
He added that they have further strengthened surveillance along the border to prevent similar attempts in the future.
