Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) recorded its highest-ever revenue collection in the fiscal 2025-26, with total earnings rising by more than Tk100 crore from the previous year, driven largely by record property tax collection and a substantial payment from the Chattogram Port Authority.
According to data from the corporation’s revenue department, CCC collected Tk556.92 crore in total revenue during FY26, up from Tk456.68 crore in the previous fiscal year, marking an increase of Tk100.23 crore, or around 21%.
The corporation attributed the strong performance mainly to a historic surge in municipal property tax collection.
The CCC collected Tk384.55 crore in property tax during the fiscal year, accounting for nearly 69% of its total revenue. The amount exceeded the annual target by Tk48.9 crore, making it the first time in the corporation’s history that property tax collection surpassed the target, reaching 115% of the projected figure.
In FY25, the corporation had collected Tk309.28 crore in property tax. This means property tax revenue increased by Tk75.27 crore year-on-year.
The single biggest contributor to the record collection was the Chattogram Port Authority, which paid Tk198.27 crore on 29 June against its outstanding and current tax liabilities.
CCC officials said the port’s payment played a decisive role in helping the corporation exceed its revenue target.
The city currently has 225,096 holdings, including 1,383 government-owned holdings. Against these government properties, the CCC had set a collection target of Tk174.4 crore for the fiscal year. Largely due to the payment from the Chattogram Port Authority, collections from government holdings reached Tk252.54 crore, exceeding the target.
However, officials said the port authority still owes around Tk64 crore, which the corporation is continuing efforts to recover.
For the city’s 223,713 private holdings, the CCC had set a target of Tk161.25 crore, including outstanding dues. It collected Tk132 crore, achieving about 82% of the target.
Apart from property tax, the corporation collected Tk30.67 crore from trade licence fees, Tk94.78 crore from land transfer tax, and Tk1.5 crore from advertisement tax during the fiscal year.
The Estate Department also contributed Tk36.74 crore to the corporation’s revenue through various sources.
Mayor Shahadat Hossain expressed satisfaction over the record revenue collection, saying the corporation’s long-term goal is to become financially self-reliant.
He said he personally monitored revenue collection progress every week and that the corporation had also written to the relevant ministries to recover outstanding dues from government agencies.
“The increase in our own revenue will significantly strengthen CCC’s capacity to finance essential civic services,” the mayor said.
He added that the additional funds would help improve waste management, street lighting, road infrastructure, traffic connectivity and waterlogging mitigation. The enhanced revenue would also allow the corporation to expand and improve education and healthcare services, where CCC provides substantial subsidies.
Tk2,260cr budget for FY27
Meanwhile, the CCC has proposed a Tk2,260.24 crore budget for the fiscal 2026-27.
The proposed budget, unveiled by Mayor Shahadat Hossain on 30 June, targets Tk1,197.62 crore in revenue from the corporation’s own sources. It also projects Tk1,023.2 crore in grants and other receipts, alongside an opening balance of Tk39.42 crore, bringing the total proposed budget to Tk2,260.24 crore.
