Newly appointed National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Ahsan Habib today (30 June) urged tax officials to perform their duties with honesty, sincerity and dedication, saying the ambitious revenue target for the new fiscal year can be achieved through committed efforts.
Speaking to journalists after assuming office at the NBR headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, Ahsan Habib said integrity and hard work would be key to meeting the government’s revenue collection goal.
“If officials carry out their responsibilities with honesty, commitment and hard work, I believe the revenue target for the new fiscal year can be achieved,” he added.
Earlier, while being welcomed by NBR officials, the new chairman also gave directions on a range of administrative and operational issues related to revenue collection.
According to NBR sources, the new fiscal year, FY2026-27, begins tomorrow with a revenue collection target that is nearly 40% higher than the target set for the outgoing fiscal year.
Revenue experts have noted that Bangladesh has never achieved revenue collection growth at such a pace, making the new target one of the most challenging in the country’s history.
