The government will work in coordination with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to improve the quality of primary education, Primary and Mass Education State Minister Bobby Hajjaj said today (29 June).
Speaking as the chief guest at the “GO-NGO Collaboration Dialogue” held at the BRAC Centre in the capital, Hajjaj said the desired transformation in education cannot be achieved by the government alone, but through joint efforts involving the government and development partners.
He said the government’s primary focus in education reform is to improve students’ learning outcomes. To achieve this, priority is being given to five key areas: curriculum, teachers, administration, infrastructure and technology.
The state minister said new initiatives are being introduced to make primary education more modern, efficient and technology-driven, including enhanced teacher training, greater transparency in teacher recruitment and transfers, improved administrative efficiency, digital monitoring and technology-based education management.
Hajjaj said realistic, scalable and sustainable initiatives are needed to bring meaningful change to more than 65,000 government primary schools across the country. In this regard, the government intends to utilise NGOs’ field-level experience and innovative models.
He also said the government is working with various stakeholders to ensure access to education for children with disabilities, pre-primary learners, non-formal education participants, children of urban migrant families, tea garden communities and other marginalised groups.
Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Shahina Ferdousi, along with officials from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the directorate of Primary Education, BRAC and several NGOs, attended the event.
