Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku today (29 June) told parliament that the risk of a major power generation shortfall has eased following the restoration of two power plants that had gone offline due to technical faults.
Referring to his statement yesterday, the minister said the temporary shutdown of the two plants had caused load shedding.
“Yesterday was difficult, but today we have overcome that situation,” he said.
The minister said current power generation stands at 14,500MW, against a demand of 14,839MW, leaving a shortfall of 339MW.
“There will still be around 339MW of load shedding. We are trying to reduce even this gap. Some areas may continue to experience load shedding, but we are making every effort to minimise it,” he added.
