Three members of a family sustained burn injuries in a gas cylinder explosion at a house in Azad Colony, Tekpara area, under Chandgaon Police Station, this morning (26 January).
The injured – Mohammad Kamrul (20), Mohammad Badsha (25) and Shahanur Begum (25) – are undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukder of CMCH police outpost confirmed the incident, saying, “Three people have been admitted with burn injuries. Their treatment is underway.”
According to local sources, the cylinder exploded around 11am with a loud bang, quickly setting the house on fire. Neighbours rushed to the scene, rescued the victims, and brought them to CMCH.
Dr Mohammad S Khaled, head of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department at CMCH, said, “Twenty to thirty percent of the victims’ bodies have been burnt. Of particular concern is that all three have sustained injuries to their faces and respiratory.”
He added that burn patients with such injuries are at risk of developing lung complications.
“Their condition is currently critical, and they are receiving intensive care,” said the doctor.
