A Faridpur court today (25 June) sentenced a Madrasah director to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for attempted rape of a 15-year-old student in a room adjacent to the institution’s hefzkhana in 2025.
Judge Shamima Parvin of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Faridpur handed down the verdict around 1:30pm.
The convicted Madrasah director was identified as Md Ashraf Ali, 46, director of Rawzatun-Nesa Mohila Madrasah in Faridpur town’s South Goalchamot area and a resident of the same locality. Ali lived in a room inside the Madrasah with his wife and children.
Confirming the verdict, Public Prosecutor (PP) Golam Rabbani Bhuiyan Ratan said the court has directed the Faridpur deputy commissioner to recover the Tk70,000 fine by selling the convict’s movable and immovable property and hand it over to the victim’s family.
He said the court has also issued a warrant against the absconding convict. “We are satisfied with this verdict,” he added.
The convict was absent from the court at the time of the verdict.
According to the case statement, the victim was a resident student of the same Madrasah and a hefzkhana student. On 23 April 2025, around 5:30pm, Ali called the girl from her classroom to his living quarters at the Madrasah, taking advantage of the fact that his wife and children were not home, and attempted to rape her. The girl ran out of the room and later told her parents what had happened.
The family initially attempted to settle the matter locally but failed to do so.
Later, the victim’s father filed a case against Ali under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Faridpur Kotwali Police Station on 9 May, naming him as the sole accused.
Police arrested Ali at the time, but he was later released on bail. He has remained absconding since the trial’s argument phase began.
Sub-Inspector Md Nur Hossain of Kotwali Police Station, who investigated the case, submitted the chargesheet to the court on 31 August 2025, naming Ali as the sole accused.
