The inaugural Bangladesh Formula Student and Automotive Engineering Summit 2026, the country’s first national event focused on automotive engineering, Formula Student and motorsport, was held at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Dhaka’s Mirpur Cantonment today (25 June).
The summit was jointly organised by MIST Blitz, a Formula Student team formed by MIST students, and the Bangladesh Formula Student Community, reads a Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) press release.
Organisers said the event brought together students, engineers, researchers, automobile industry professionals and policymakers on a single platform to foster collaboration and accelerate the development of Bangladesh’s automotive engineering sector.
More than 2,500 guests and visitors attended the day-long programme.
Lieutenant General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman, principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division, attended the event as chief guest, while Major General Muhammad Hakimuzzaman, commandant of MIST, served as chief patron.
Brigadier General Mohummad Shariful Islam, head of MIST’s Mechanical Engineering Department, chaired the organising committee.
The summit featured a series of technical sessions on automotive engineering and Formula Student competitions conducted by industry experts and academics. Discussions were also held on the development of Bangladesh’s automotive and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) sectors, with participation from industry representatives and members of the Formula Student community.
Several competitions and learning activities were organised for students, including the Formula Future Business Case Competition, an internal combustion engine masterclass and quiz, a Formula Student concept car challenge, a CAD design competition and poster presentations.
Visitors also enjoyed a range of attractions, including a car show, go-kart racing and simulator racing.
One of the event’s main highlights was the car show, which featured Formula Student racing cars developed by students from different universities alongside high-performance vehicles showcased by automobile brands and collectors.
Before the main event, an online webinar titled “TrackTalk 2026” was held, where local and international automobile industry professionals experienced in Formula Student, Formula One and high-performance car development shared their knowledge and experience with students.
Organisers expressed hope that the summit would contribute to the growth of automotive engineering education in Bangladesh and promote greater participation in Formula Student competitions.
