The National Task Force Committee formed to oversee dengue prevention activities during the monsoon season will continue regular monitoring and anti-mosquito drives at houses and establishments across the capital, said State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today (24 June).
The operation was conducted as part of the activities of the task force committee formed to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases across the country, he said while inspecting an Aedes mosquito search and larva destruction drive at several establishments on Roads 107 and 112 in Gulshan-2.
The junior minister also urged city residents to ensure cleanliness in and around their homes, including balconies, rooftops, rooftop gardens and ground-floor areas, to reduce the risk of dengue transmission.
“Residents should take necessary precautions and keep their premises clean to prevent mosquito breeding and protect themselves from dengue,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Imrul Kayes said the corporation has been implementing a three-month programme aimed at controlling dengue mosquitoes during the monsoon season.
Regular awareness campaigns and cleanliness drives are being carried out at households under the programme, he said.
He also urged residents to cooperate with the city corporation by removing stagnant water from their homes and rooftops to help eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
During the drive, DNCC Executive Magistrate Marufa Akter Neli fined the owner of Choice Restaurant Tk 50,000 for violating mosquito control regulations.
