The Appellate Division’s Chamber Court has stayed the High Court’s bail orders granted to former lawmaker and singer Momtaz Begum in two more cases.
Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed the order today (22 June). Momtaz’s lawyer, Motahar Hossain Saju, confirmed the development to reporters.
Earlier, on 21 June, the Chamber Court had stayed the High Court’s bail order in another case involving Momtaz.
On 15 June, the High Court granted her interim bail in three cases – a murder case and an attempted murder case filed with Ashulia Police Station, and a murder case filed with Mirpur Model Police Station.
The state subsequently appealed against the bail orders.
Momtaz was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) from a residence in Dhanmondi on 12 May 2025, following the fall of the Awami League government during the student-led mass uprising on 5 August 2024.
She was produced before a court the following day and sent to jail.
Several cases, including murder charges, have been filed against her with different police stations in Dhaka.
