The government is providing monthly honorarium allowances to 13,344 of the 14,369 gazetted July warriors who were injured or participated in the 2024 July Uprising, while 152 seriously injured individuals have been sent abroad for advanced medical treatment, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan said today (18 June).
The minister disclosed the information in a written response to a question from reserved women’s seat lawmaker Rokeya Begum during the question-and-answer session in the Jatiya Sangsad.
According to the minister, the government has adopted a long-term plan covering the treatment, rehabilitation, employment and financial support of July warriors and the families of those killed during the uprising.
He said injured July warriors are receiving free treatment at government hospitals, while those with severe injuries are being sent abroad for specialised care based on recommendations from medical boards.
So far, 152 July warriors have been sent to Thailand, Singapore, Turkey and Russia for advanced treatment. Of them, 102 have returned home after completing treatment, while 50 are still undergoing treatment abroad, the minister added.
Azam Khan also said the government has prepared a database of 3,241 interested individuals from among July warrior and martyr families for welfare and rehabilitation programmes. “Of them, 1,937 have already been enlisted and referred to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for training and rehabilitation support.”
Regarding financial assistance, he said 13,344 gazetted July warriors are currently receiving monthly honorarium allowances directly into their bank accounts according to their category.
Under the scheme, Category A beneficiaries receive Tk20,000 per month, Category B beneficiaries receive Tk15,000, and Category C beneficiaries receive Tk10,000.
The minister added that the process of bringing the remaining gazetted July warriors under the allowance programme is currently underway.
