The High Court has granted bail to former minister and Awami League joint general secretary Dipu Moni in a case linked to the July Uprising filed with Paltan Police Station.
The High Court has also issued a rule asking why bail should not be granted to her in seven other cases.
The High Court’s Eighth Bench passed the bail and rule orders today (9 June).
Dipu’s lawyer, Ramzan Ali Sikdar, said there are currently a total of 38 cases against her, of which two are being tried before the International Crimes Tribunal.
Of the remaining cases, the High Court has granted bail along with rules in two.
One bail was granted a few days ago and another today. In addition, rules have been issued in 13 cases across two separate hearings regarding the question of bail.
Dipu Moni served as joint general secretary of the Awami League and held ministerial portfolios – including foreign affairs, education, and social welfare – across the 15 years of the previous Awami League government.
Following the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August 2024, amid a mass uprising, she was arrested by police on the night of 19 August that year from the Baridhara area of the capital.
