The government is planning to establish franchise post offices and postal pick-up points through private entrepreneurs as part of efforts to enhance services provided by the postal department, according to Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam.
Speaking during a question-and-answer session in parliament today (9 June), the minister said that the process of selecting suitable locations for the initiative is currently underway.
He also informed lawmakers that 14 fulfilment centres have been established across the country to support the e-commerce and f-commerce sectors. These centres will facilitate product collection, storage, processing, booking, sorting, transportation and distribution.
“The government is continuing a range of measures aimed at improving the quality, speed and reach of postal services for the public. Ongoing services include home delivery of land-related documents, bulk passport delivery and home delivery of driving licences,” Mahbub said.
In addition, a cash-on-delivery service for e-commerce products is currently being processed in response to customer demand, he added.
The minister further noted that, under the traffic management operations of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, video-based cases regarding traffic violation and traffic notifications are being delivered to recipients through the postal service.
