The 13th National Parliament has allocated a total of 40 hours for discussions on the proposed FY2026-27 national budget during its second (budget) session.
The matter was discussed at the third meeting of the Business Advisory Committee held at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today (7 June).
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad chaired the meeting.
The committee discussed maintaining the usual practice of allocating 40 hours for budget discussions. It also deliberated on time allocation and the duration of the budget session to complete its scheduled business.
The meeting decided that parliamentary sittings would begin at 3pm every day, except on public holidays, and that the session would conclude on 9 July.
To expedite budget-related proceedings, it was proposed that the House may hold two sittings a day for four consecutive days from 27 to 30 June.
The committee was informed that a total of 3,228 questions had been submitted for the current session, including 191 addressed to the Prime Minister and Leader of the House, Tarique Rahman, and 3,037 directed to other ministers.
In addition, lawmakers submitted 98 notices seeking attention under Rule 71 and 293 notices of resolutions under Rule 131.
The meeting was attended by the Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman, and other members of the committee.
The first budget session of the 13th national parliament started at 3pm.
Earlier today, a condolence motion was adopted in the House, expressing grief at the death of 16 former ministers and MPs, including Tofail Ahmed, as well as noted educationist Prof Dilara Hafiz (the Speaker’s wife), eight-year-old Ramisa Akter, who was raped and murdered, and some other noted personalities.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is likely to place the proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on 11 June.
It would be the first budget after BNP formed the government following the national election held on 12 February 2026.
Earlier on 07 May, President Mohammed Shahabuddin summoned the parliamentary session.
The first session of the 13th Parliament ended on 30 April. During that session, a total of 94 bills were passed after 25 working days.
