A rare slow loris was rescued in Cumilla’s Chauddagram upazila and was later handed over to the Forest Department.
The endangered animal was found yesterday afternoon (2 June) in Baidderkhil village on the outskirts of Chauddagram municipality, according to local authorities.
Local resident Abdul Momin first spotted the animal and captured it.
Later, Arafat Hossain, team leader of the Chauddagram Quick Response Team, took custody of the animal through the upazila administration.
This morning (3 June), the slow loris was handed over to the Upazila Livestock Office, where it underwent a health examination and received treatment before being returned to the administration.
The upazila administration later handed the animal over to the Forest Department.
Upazila Livestock Officer Md Abdullah Al Mamun Sagar said the animal had been given treatment after a physical examination.
“It is suspected that the animal suffered an electric shock,” he said.
Chauddagram Upazila Forest Officer Md Shahin Alam said the slow loris was currently under their supervision and in good health.
“It will be released into the wild once we receive instructions from the higher authorities,” he added.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Shahadat Hossain said the animal had been transferred to the Forest Department after receiving necessary treatment and that the department would take further steps.
