Police have arrested the prime suspect in the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram district.
The main accused, Md Badsha Miah, 36, was arrested shortly after the victim’s father filed a case at South Rangunia Police Station yesterday (30 May).
Confirming the arrest, Officer-in-Charge of South Rangunia Police Station, Md Hilal Uddin Ahmed, said that operations are underway to nab the remaining two.
“The victim has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for medical examination”, he added.
The other two accused are Md Saiful, 27, son of Md Sabar from Chandra Ghona Dhaliya Muslim Para in Kaptai, and Md Mahbub alias Malu, 30, son of Md Jalal from Joynagar Mukhtulla Tila in Padua union.
According to the case statement, the victim’s father, a farmer, had left their three pet goats to graze in a field near a neighbour’s house in Joynagar area of Padua union on the morning of 24 May.
When the goats did not return home by evening, the 15-year-old girl went out around 5pm to look for them.
The complaint states that Badsha allegedly caught the girl alone, covered her mouth, and dragged her into a nearby deserted jungle.
He then called the other two accused, Saiful and Mahbub, to the spot using his mobile phone. The trio allegedly raped the girl one after another. They threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone before fleeing the scene.
