Police recovered the bodies of three members of the same family from a house in Khulna city’s Sonadanga area today (30 May), in what is suspected to be a triple murder linked to a family dispute.
The bodies were recovered around 8pm from a residence in the Darus Aman neighbourhood on Tamizuddin Road, Sonadanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam confirmed.
The deceased were identified as Baby Begum, 55, and her two grandsons, Shamim, 13, and Mustakim, 4.
According to police, Fatema Begum, also known as Mary, divorced her first husband, Masum Bepari, about four years ago. Following the divorce, she had been living at her mother’s house in Sonadanga with their two sons, Shamim and Mustakim.
Police said Fatema later married another man, Rafiqul Islam, but their relationship was also reportedly troubled.
OC Rafiqul Islam said preliminary investigations suggest that Fatema’s second husband may have been involved in the killings.
“Police operations are underway to arrest him,” he said.
He added that Fatema Begum has been taken into police custody for questioning as part of the investigation.
