Two more children have died while undergoing treatment for measles in Faridpur Medical College Hospital, taking the total death toll from the disease at the facility to 16, health officials confirmed.
With the latest fatalities, the total number of deaths linked to measles and measles-like illnesses this year has risen to 568.
The latest casualties, which occurred last night (28 May), involved a nine-month-old infant named Ayan and a three-month-old infant named Abdullah.
Dr Mahmudal Hasan, the district civil surgeon, said the prevalence of measles has increased significantly across Faridpur, with infection rates rising sharply among children.
“In response to the growing crisis, the authorities have strengthened specialised medical services and treatment facilities across local hospitals to manage the influx of patients,” he said.
The district health department has urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children receive routine vaccinations to prevent further transmission.
Furthermore, health officials advised families to seek immediate medical consultation if children exhibit early symptoms of measles, such as fever, rash, cough, or runny nose.
