The body of Bangladeshi migrant worker Mohammad Shraban, who was killed in a missile attack in Iraq during the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, arrived in the country early this morning (29 May).
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam received the body at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after the Turkish Airlines flight carrying it landed at 4:45am, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Shraban, son of Mohammad Noli Mia of Bakultala village in Munshiganj Sadar upazila, had been living and working in Iraq’s capital Baghdad for the past 10 years.
A press release issued by the foreign ministry states that Shraban was killed after a missile struck an area in Baghdad amid the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran.
Expressing deep sorrow over the death, the state minister conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
The repatriation process was coordinated by the Bangladesh Embassy in Baghdad.
The body was flown from Baghdad International Airport on 27 May aboard Turkish Airlines flight TK0843 and later transported to Dhaka on flight TK0712 after a 29-hour transit in Türkiye.
Following completion of airport formalities, the body was handed over to the deceased’s father, wife, and daughter.
State Minister Shama Obaed also handed over Tk35,000 for transportation and funeral expenses, a special grant of Tk50,000 and other entitled financial assistance on behalf of the government.
