Bus-motorbike collision leaves 5 dead in Gopalganj

At least five people, including a pregnant woman, were killed and around 20 others injured in a collision between a bus and a motorbike in Bedgram area on the outskirts of Gopalganj town today (28 May).

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet, said police.

Witnesses said when a speeding motorbike crashed into a Pirojpur-bound Dola Paribahan bus coming from Dhaka when it reached the area at noon.

Following the collision, the bus overturned on the highway while the motorcycle was mangled badly, leaving four people, including two motorcyclists, dead at the spot.

With the help of locals, firefighters and police rescued the injured and took them to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital and General Hospital, where doctors declared a 12-year-old child dead.

After the accident, Gopalganj-2 lawmaker Dr KM Babar, Deputy Commissioner Md Arif Uz Zaman and Superintendent of Police Habibullah visited the spot.
