A fire that broke out in Munshiganj’s Sreenagar early today (24 May) burned down 10 business establishments.
The incident occurred around 5am beside Sreenagar Cold Storage on the Chonbari-Munshiganj road in the upazila’s Atpara area. According to the Fire Service, the fire is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit.
A CNG-run auto-rickshaw parked inside one of the establishments was also destroyed in the blaze. Shopkeepers claimed that losses from the incident exceeded Tk20 lakh.
Sreenagar Fire Station and Civil Defence Station Officer Dewan Azad Hossain said two firefighting units rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident.
When firefighters arrived, the shops were engulfed in flames, and the electricity connection was still active, he said.
The fire was brought under control after about an hour. As firefighters managed to contain the blaze quickly, damage to nearby shops was prevented, the official added.
