A National Citizen Party (NCP) leader was attacked and pelted with eggs in Lisbon, Portugal, with a video of the incident later going viral on social media.
The footage, which surfaced on Facebook early today (23 May), shows NCP Sylhet district Organising Secretary Md Akter Hossain being targeted with eggs before being physically assaulted by a group of young men in a park area.
The exact time of the incident has not been independently verified.
In a Facebook post this morning, Akter claimed that he was attacked shortly after a meeting in Portugal.
“After finishing a meeting with members of NCP Portugal, I was suddenly attacked from behind by members of the banned Chhatra League armed with weapons,” he wrote.
The video shows Akter speaking with two individuals in a park when a young man suddenly throws an egg at him, followed by others joining in. Moments later, the situation escalates into physical assault, forcing him to flee the scene.
The NCP’s Sylhet district unit also issued a statement expressing concern over the incident and strongly condemning the attack.
The party said: “We express deep concern and strongly condemn the sudden and heinous attack on Akter Hossain by so-called Chhatra League terrorists during his private visit to Portugal.”
