The newly constructed 160-metre rigid pavement section at the Abdullahpur Intersection on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway was opened to traffic on 23 May 2026 to ease traffic flow ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
Bridges Division Secretary and Bangladesh Bridges Authority Executive Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf inspected the section before formally opening it to the public.
Abdullahpur Intersection is one of the busiest entry and exit points of the capital and remains under heavy traffic pressure, particularly ahead of major festivals.
Speaking after opening the road, Mohammad Abdur Rouf said the timely completion of the rigid pavement work before Eid-ul-Adha would help reduce public suffering during holiday travel.
“There are only a few days left for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha. The timely completion of the 160-metre rigid pavement section before this challenging period will greatly reduce the suffering of people during Eid journeys,” he said.
The bridge secretary also said the existing lane opposite the newly constructed section should be temporarily repaired and carpeted immediately.
He advised officials to ensure that vehicular movement in both directions remains uninterrupted during Eid.
With the opening of the modern, durable, rigid pavement section, heavy vehicles are expected to cross the Abdullahpur Intersection with fewer slowdowns.
Officials said the renovation would help improve traffic flow at the point and support smoother movement of Eid travellers.
The Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Bridges Authority, officials of the authority and representatives of the contracting companies involved in the construction work were present during the inspection.
