Three people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle on the Khulna–Mongla highway in Bagerhat’s Chulkathi Bhatt Balighata area this morning (20 May).
Md Zafar Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kachakhali Highway Police Station, said a motorcycle carrying three riders was travelling from Mongla towards Khulna and collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction around 9:30am.
“The motorcycle went under the truck, and one person died on the spot,” he said.
The other two injured passengers were rescued by the Fire Service and taken to Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
One of the deceased was identified as Abdul Kader, a resident of Jaria Bhavana area under Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat. He was reportedly riding the motorcycle. The identities of the other two victims could not be confirmed.
Dr Ejazul Islam of the hospital’s emergency department said the two injured were brought in dead.
Senior Station Officer of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defence, Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, said firefighters rescued the victims from the spot and transported them to the hospital, where all three were pronounced dead.
