A group of 61 pro- awami league lawyers who were imprisoned during the tenure of the former interim government formed a human chain in Dhaka today (9 June) demanding trial of Muhammad Yunus.
The protest took place in front of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court. Protesters carried placards and chanted various slogans during the event.
Speaking at the gathering, lawyer Mahfuzur Rahman Likhon, one of the recently released detainees, strongly criticised what he described as restrictions imposed on pro-Awami League lawyers.
He alleged that they had been prevented from contesting elections within legal professional bodies and from conducting legal proceedings.
Likhon also called for the withdrawal of cases filed against lawyers who had been imprisoned during the interim administration.
Among other released lawyers attending the human chain were Advocate Obaidul Islam, Advocate Liton Mia and Advocate Touhid. Advocate Shamim Al Sohag Saiful was also present at the event.
