A five-member investigation committee has been formed to probe allegations that recently resigned prosecutor Saimum Reza Talukder demanded Tk1 crore in exchange for granting bail.
The committee was formed this afternoon (10 March), following a meeting chaired by Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam of the International Crimes Tribunal.
According to officials, the chief prosecutor will lead the five-member fact-finding committee. Other members include prosecutors Abdus Sobhan Tarafder, Marjina Raihan Madina, Mohammad Zahirul Amin, and law research officer Sifatullah.
The prosecution said the committee has been tasked with examining overall issues related to the investigation and prosecution of the reconstituted International Crimes Tribunal. It will also investigate the allegation that Saimum Reza Talukder demanded a bribe.
Speaking to journalists earlier in the day, Aminul described the allegation as a serious issue and said, “Such allegations should not arise against any of our prosecutors. Since the issue has surfaced, immediate action should have been taken. We do not know why it was tolerated.”
