Five Bangladeshi nationals were killed and two others injured after a gas cylinder exploded at the workers’ quarters of an under-construction building at Dhigurah Island in the Maldives.
The victims were identified as Taj Uddin Islam, Md Sadar Ali, Md Robin Molla, Shafiqul Islam and Md Nurnabi Sarker.
The Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives confirmed the matter today (13 March).
Two other nationals, Jamal Uddin and Saddam Hossain, were critically injured in the explosion and are currently receiving treatment at IGM Hospital in Male.
According to officials of the High Commission, they have already contacted the injured workers and are closely monitoring their medical condition.
The mission also said it is working with the relevant authorities to ensure the bodies of the deceased are repatriated to Bangladesh as soon as possible.
