A suspected personal dispute turned violent when armed assailants stormed a house in Khulna this morning (19 March) and opened fire on four members of the same family, leaving two in critical condition.
The incident occurred at around 6:30am in the Khadizabag Krishnanagar area under Labnchora Police Station.
The victims were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital before two of them were transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The injured are Kazi Anisur Rahman, his wife Ranjwara Begum, their son Raisul Islam, and daughter-in-law Fahima, wife of their younger son Rashidul.
Ranjwara sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, while Fahima was shot in the leg. Both are in critical condition.
Police and local sources said the violence may have stemmed from a domestic dispute linked to an alleged extramarital relationship.
According to them, Rashidul was previously in jail in a drug-related case, where he reportedly became acquainted with a man named Imran.
Later, he began visiting Imran’s household and developed a close relationship with Imran’s wife, Fahima.
After Imran was in jail again in another case about six months ago, Rashidul is believed to have married Fahima.
Once the marriage came to light, Imran allegedly became enraged and sought revenge, which investigators suspect may have led to the attack.
Labnchora Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Tuhinuzzaman said preliminary findings indicate that the shooting was triggered by a personal dispute.
He added that six suspects have been identified and efforts are underway to arrest them.
