Police arrested four people yesterday (17 March) in connection with the murder of content creator Rakibul Islam in Dhaka’s central Shaheed Minar area.
One suspect was arrested on the day of the incident, while the other three were caught from two different districts, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of the DMP Media and Public Relations Department Muhammad Talebur Rahman.
In a press note, Talebur said, “Mystery of Rakib murder at central Shaheed Minar solved; four arrested.”
The names of those arrested have not been released yet.
Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman said one suspect was handed over to the police by the public on the day of the incident. Of the remaining three, two were arrested from Khulna and one from Patuakhali.
A press briefing was scheduled for this afternoon (18 March) but was later cancelled due to unavoidable reasons.
Earlier, on 15 March, Rakibul Islam was killed around 9pm in the central Shaheed Minar area. He was attacked with knives and firearms, and people present at the scene caught one of the attackers with a macheta and handed him over to Shahbagh police station.
