A joint operation by the Chattogram Port Authority, Bangladesh Navy, and Coast Guard has seized around 37,000 litres of diesel illegally stored on a tanker vessel in the Sadarghat area of the Karnaphuli River this evening (2 April).
Confirming the development to The Business Standard, the port authority’s secretary, Refayet Hamim, said the fuel was recovered during a drive carried out as part of efforts to curb unauthorised storage and distribution of petroleum products in and around the port zone.
“The drive is still ongoing, and further details will be disclosed upon completion of the operation,” Hamim said.
Legal proceedings are currently underway in connection with the incident, he added.
