Three workers of the Dhaka Electric Supply Company (Desco) died after being electrocuted while installing an underground power line in Dhaka’s Khilkhet area on Sunday (15 March).
Two others were also injured in the incident that took place in the Khapara area of Khilkhet in the afternoon, police confirmed.
The deceased were identified as Md Rajib Hossain, 25, from Barguna, Razzak Mia, 57, and Farid Zaman, 64, of Jamalpur.
Police could not identify the two injured persons immediately.
The bodies have been kept at Kurmitola General Hospital, where the injured are also undergoing treatment.
All of them were workers of an outsourced company (subcontractor) of Desco.
Khilkhet Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Alim said the workers were lifting an underground electric cable with a crane from beside a temple in Khapara. At that time, the cable came into contact with a wire from another electric pole, leaving five workers seriously injured. Three of them passed away later.
