Two men were killed and another sustained injuries in a fire that broke out at KB Orchid Plaza under Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram this morning (19 March).
The deceased were Mohammad Yunus, 52, and Mohammad Solaiman, 28. According to the police, both were workers at shops in the mall.
The blaze originated on the third floor of the 12-storey building.
Atish Chakma, sub-assistant director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence, said four firefighting units from two stations rushed to the scene after receiving information at around 9:55am.
The fire was brought under control by 10:53am.
The origin of the fire and extent of damage were under investigation, Atish added.
Nurul Alam Ashik, in-charge of the police outpost at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, said two injured men were brought in at about 11:50am.
“Doctors on duty declared them dead. Their bodies have been kept at the morgue,” he added.
He said another injured, Mohammad Mamun, was brought to the hospital around noon.
