Two people were injured in a clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) over control of a garment waste (jhut) business in Narayanganj’s Fatullah today (9 April).
The incident occurred around 9:30am in the Chandni Housing area of Enayetnagar Shashangaon under the jurisdiction of Fatullah Model Police Station, Additional Superintendent of Police Hasanuzzaman confirmed.
The injured were identified as Rakib, 23, son of Mohammad Hossain Khoka, organising secretary of Ward No 2 of the Enayetnagar union unit BNP, and local BNP leader Rafique, 40.
According to local sources, the clash broke out over the unloading of garment waste materials from a factory named Doyesland in the area.
A dispute between two local BNP groups over control of the waste business escalated into a violent confrontation.
Witnesses said armed individuals detonated crude bombs and fired several rounds, creating panic in the area.
Rakib sustained bullet injuries during the clash, while Rafique was injured by the impact of an explosive device.
Later, locals rescued Rakib and took him to Khanpur 300-bed Hospital, where he received primary treatment before leaving shortly afterwards, eyewitnesses added.
Mohammad Hossain Khoka alleged that leaders and activists led by Fatullah Thana Jubo Dal convener Haji Masudur Rahman Masud went to the scene after learning about the dispute.
He claimed that 20–30 people launched a sudden attack.
“They detonated crude bombs and fired several rounds, leaving my son Rakib with bullet injuries,” he said.
ASP Hasanuzzaman said additional police were deployed at the scene after receiving information about the incident.
“The clash originated from a dispute over the waste business. The situation in the area is now under control,” the ASP added.
