At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups over local dominance in Naria upazila of Shariatpur this morning (23 March).
Police detained six people in this connection and recovered two live crude bombs from the scene.
Naria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bahar Mia said the clash stemmed from a dispute between the two groups centring on the 12 February national election.
Police are questioning those detained, he stated, adding that security forces remain on alert to maintain order.
The clash broke out at about 6am in the Rajnagar Taltala area between supporters of Hafiz Bhuiyan and Rubel Kazi, according to local sources. At the time, explosions of crude bombs triggered panic in the area.
At least 25 houses belonging to both sides were vandalised during the violence, sources said. Several of the injured were admitted to a hospital in the district.
Police and fire service personnel brought the situation under control after reaching the scene, with additional forces being deployed.
